As I mentioned in the previous image, when the Australians reached the Turkish trenches at the battle of Lone Pine they found that the Turks had covered them with Pine logs. The result was that a lot of the fighting had to be done in a subterranean environment, often hand to hand. The diorama at the museum is in two parts; the above ground part showing the assault toward the trenches, and a below ground part seen here showing the fighting once inside. The details on the models' faces are quite reduced in the latter part, possibly just to save work, more likely to reflect the anonymity and low light of the below ground battle.
