These honeycomb markings were installed in a couple of the intersections in the city "as a reminder to motorists to keep the intersection clear", according to the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) web site.
And in further news, the RTA will be installing "No Parking" signs on the top of shop awnings as a "reminder to motorists not to park there", and "This Is Not A Car Park Entrance You Moron" signs at the pedestrian entranceway to Town Hall Railway Station. (Mind you, I shouldn't poke fun at that last point; I recall that several years ago an old dear drove her car into the underground Bondi Junction railway station sending commuters scattering as she drove around wondering why she couldn't find the entrance to David Jones. Of course, in my own opinion you'd need to be less than compos mentis to shop at David Jones. Of course maybe I just don't like paying 90 bucks for a T-Shirt. But I digress.)
When I was in the city on Saturday I noticed these markings painted on the roadway and was somewhat dazzled by the way they looked. I visualised how they would look at dawn or dusk with lit cars driving over them. In an ideal world such a shot would be made with the 40D, one of my tripods and a remote shutter release, but that wasn't practical either in terms of carting them in on a work day or the pedestrian traffic on the streets. The Olympus, the pancake prime lens and a 2 second delay on the shutter release to minimise shake had to suffice.
