110502_054541_502431 My View Of Redfern Station, Most Mornings (Mon 02 May)

Redfern Railway Station, Redfern, NSW

Redfern, one stop before and to the south of Central (itself on the far southern end of the CBD) is the heart of the South Sydney region. Traditionally working class and more than a little rough, it's become somewhat gentrified in recent years as it again became desirable to live near the city, but still hasn't lost many of its rough edges.

Russell Crowe owns the local Rugby League team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs. (So named because back in the old days of the Depression many in the area used to make their meagre livings by catching, killing and selling rabbits for meat. The team continues to wear its "working class battlers" heritage on its metaphorical sleeve.) I'm therefore somewhat anxious that were I to stroll through Redfern at 2am I may have a telephone thrown at me.

Redfern is the first station where all of the western and southern lines (as well as the main north line, though it's running in from the west at that point) come together, and consequently all trains stop there. This is therefore my view, once per day, 5 days most weeks. Especially outside of summer, when it's almost always dark when I pass through of a morning.

And so I present little metaphorical window on part of my world... shot through a little literal window.
