11957 Chimney Totem (Monument To Woodfiring) (47)

Mark's Park, Bondi, NSW

I was originally thinking of cropping this picture of Tony Davis' work, but then I remembered why I shot it the way I did; though it may "violate" the rule of thirds, I liked it (almost) centred against the big textured sky with a lot of space around it.

The sculpture is Jarrah timber over a steel sub-frame. Davis' statement is "Manifestation of carbon credits as fuel for thought".

Although it's not clear from this photo (though it will be in image 11964), the upper part has the texture of a brick chimney stack, while the lower part is in the shape of tree roots, with an opening suggestive of an oven.

Ah, the title makes sense now, doesn't it?

In the background on the right is Bob Emser's Wind of Change, and on the left is Matthew Harding's Centripetal, two viewers and half a Border Collie.
