The gardens near the waterfront at Circular Quay contain what I believe to be poppies (amongst other plants, obviously). Here we see three in particular; one already in bloom, one breaking out of its bud, one only just beginning that process.
And of course, many which have yet to even begin it.
I have to admit that the very shallow DOF here caught me a little off guard. While I wanted to throw the background plants out, I thought that f/8 would be enough to keep the blooming flower in the crisp range despite the fact that I was very close in. However it turns out that I really should have stopped down a fraction more. (It's not always easy to tell on the review screen.) Still, live, learn and all that.
