No, not my finest moment in photography, but hey, at least it makes a full week's worth of PADs again which is something that I haven't done for a while.
Thursday night is late night shopping in most parts of Australia and I often head into town to browse the bookstores, DVD stores etcetera and grab a steak sandwich for dinner at a favourite café.
Now, my original intention was to find a shot of some pralines for Máire, and I knew just the place to do that; there's a chocolate shop in the Queen Victoria Building which sells them. Except... it's closed for renovations. Normally I'd have gone with a lunchtime backup shot for the PAD but I wasn't able to get out for lunch today so I had none. Undaunted, I went to another up market chocolate shop (Haigh's in the Strand Arcade) where I found just oodles of yummy confectionery, but no pralines in the window. (They have them, just not on display.) Nor were there many good angles to shoot from. In the end I decided that the teddy looked cute peeking up from the bottom of the frame, and the Rocky Road looked not at all bad either but given the number of kilojoules sitting on that plate I thought it best to stay with f/4 for this one. Out of sight is out of thighs.
Haigh's was founded by Alfred Haigh in Mt Gambier South Australia in 1905, opening its first Adelaide store in 1915. There are now six stores in Adelaide, five in Melbourne and this one in Sydney. And when you buy their product? I dare you to stop at one.
