The Illawarra Fly is a tourist attraction at Knight's Hill, south of Wollongong and not far from Kiama. It's not terribly well promoted and the first signs indicating its location are about 30 metres from the turnoff, but if you want a "get away from the computer and recharge your batteries" experience it's worth a look. The fly is a series of suspension bridges and towers (plus two springboard cantilevers), much of which is set 20 to 30 metres above the rainforest below. The Knight's Tower, near the centre of the walk, rises to 45 metres but can only be accessed by a steep, winding staircase. Best if you don't suffer too much from vertigo and have a reasonable level of fitness. (The rest of the Fly is fairly flat, though. If you can walk to the local shops, you can walk the Fly.) The total walk is about 1.5km, with some 500 metres passing through the tree canopy. On a clear day (which unfortunately the day of our visit wasn't) you have a view way out to Lake Illawarra, the Illawarra escarpment and the coast.
