This image is not of any special merit, technically. Shooting through a dirty double pane
of plate glass in a hotel room tends to take the edge off the ability of any lens. However,
there is a memory of this image worth telling. When you take a 14 hour flight from Los Angeles
to Sydney, and arrive about 11pm in the evening, a hotel room is the only thing you want to see.
As this was Janice's first trip to Australia, I had made sure that the room in the Sydney Regent faced
the spectacular harbour. Disturbed by the effects of jetlag, although still tired, Janice was awake
before dawn. At the appropriate moment, I asked her if she wanted me to open the curtains.
This was her first view of Australia in daylight. She liked it. She has been back several times.
But this was a memorable moment for her, and for me, an Aussie, showing off his homeland.
