Solitude #3 - A Vision Splendid
New South Wales, Australia
***Best in Original Size***
"He sees a vision splendid, of the sunlit plains extended..."
For more of this poem, see here
On Mt. Kaputar, in the Nandewar Ranges of north western New South Wales, Australia,
the only sounds to break the silence will be the maniacal calls of the Currawongs (a crow-sized
picnic table robber), the winds soughing in the eucalyptus, and your own mind
racing as you take in the splendid vistas available. Although much more accessible now than
when this image was made, the visit to Mt. Kaputar is certain to bring calm to even
the most frayed and jangled nerves.
Postcript: The seated 14 year old taking in the view, my younger brother, went on to have a
distinguished career in the police force, serving in several countries at peace and
at war, and is now enjoying retirement - revisiting places like this.
