Leica M3

'A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.'

Leica M3, SS, #1139***, 35, 50 and 90mm Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Lenses.
Perhaps the finest camera ever made. It is a pure joy to hold, use and marvel at!
I have had this camera for several decades, and I still get a thrill on any day I take it out.

""A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing...""
- John Keats (1795-1821)

other sizes: small medium original auto

Yes Colin, it is right to quote a poet like Keats to describe a Leica M3 and the pleasure to own such a piece of art. It is a piece of art, the elegance in design, the perfect balance in the overall construction, perfect piece of mechanic and at the same time perfect piece I like the composition with the Classic Cameras book

I am glad you have opened up your museum, Colin. Love to see the olden goldies. Maybe I will have one some day? One thing is for sure, quality lasts. I am sure one can have cameraes like this for many, many decades if one take good care of it.

Well...a pretty lady like Ann comes along and knocks me outa the running...can't say I blame you Colin. LOL

I agree with Ann RE the quote...I have always said cameras come and go but they will have to pry my Leica's from my cold dead hands. :) They are just so much more fun to shoot with than any of my other cameras are.

What a wonderful quote by Keats.
I understand the meaning of that quote completely and also what you wrote...
It is pure joy to use my M7 but just to hold it and to look at it is also great pleasure. I'm sure I'll still get a thrill many many decades from now and I will still hold it and s-w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y with it till the end of time!!

A Leica IS "a sleep full of sweet dreams, and health, and ...quiet breathing." ...sigh...

I hate to break it to you guys - Harrison, Jason and Aaron - as much as I appreciate your kind words and support over the months, Ann has per-sway-ded me that her Holga is lonely. See (see her sway and hear the music) and the poor girl only has an M7 and a Nocti lens. :-) Sorry, fellas. Maybe the Clack?
Guest 06-Dec-2007 04:27
Wow, that is a beauty! I'm with Jason, I don't think I've seen a cleaner one. I know Harrison claimed it first but, how bout letting us rock-paper-scissors for it?...LOL
Guest 06-Dec-2007 02:11

That has to be the cleanest M3 I have ever seen. Its a thing of beauty Colin.
Guest 05-Dec-2007 23:24

Colin...that is one pretty M3 kit. It looks brand new. If you ever decide to donate it to someone keep me in mind. ;)
