I have been spending some time engraving by hand onto a copperplate 10"x8", with the aim to produce a detailed record of the view of Rue de Rivoli, Paris, as seen from our accommodation.
Engraving doesn't happen quickly for beginners like me, and I also seem to spend half my time sharpening the gravers (or burins) so that I can more easily move the copper.
Here, I am about half finished (after about 20 hours or so at the plate). I think I may try adding very pale watercolor wash to the print whilst the paper is still wet. Not sure, yet. I plan an edition of about 15 - if my hands and eyesight last the distance.
