... in choosing backgrounds.

Best viewed in Original size.

These precious new bright green leaves (like a pair of embracing angels) gave me
an opportunity to choose a dark background against which I could place the main subject.
I placed the new foliage at zone VII to highlight the newness of the growth, and this
put the old leaves ('burnt red') at zone II to V. Using a longer lens, and having the
subject in a nice overcast light, this image was exposed at maximum aperture of f4.0,
for 1/8 second. The shooting angle was manoeuvered to maximize the shallow depth
of focus, keeping the new leaves and rain drops sharp. There is a nice 'bokeh' to this image, also.

Hasselblad 503CW, Zeiss Sonnar CF 1:4.0 f=150mm +16 Ext, Fuji Acros 100 BW

Exposed at EI80. Developed in Ilford DD-X 1:4 for 9'45" @ 20c. No filter used. hide exif
