We were invited by the local guide to have lunch the way locals eat. Mrs. Yang and her friend cocked our lunch. Of course, we reimbursed her for the cost and then some. We chatted with her afterwards. Her husband is an officer with the Chinese Olympic Committees and needles to say, in preparation for the Olympic Games in Beijing, he is a very busy man. Her family occupies a section of the courtyard and shared that with three other families. This setup is typical in the Hutongs. I expected a more traditional kitchen but was surprised to see a pretty modern and actually very clean kitchen there!
