Fishes serve the purpose of bringing luck or helping your wish to come true during the day. Indeed, I could see quite a few of fishes in the canal. There are three almost parallel canals in Lijiang. The water, runoff of melting snow/glacier higher up in the mountains, flows rapidly in the canals. Because of the origin and the rapid flow, the quality of the water is excellent, even potable.
