35mm the "boring focal", yet one of those lenses which made the history of photography
because of its capabiliy to describe and get into the scene without too many distortions.
But at the same time the focal that reproduces the semi-wide angle of view
of a relaxed observer not particularly interested in anything.
That's exactly my current condition in fact :-)

Note: the 35mm equivalent for most DSLRs smaller than full format is approx 21mm.
About compacts, it's usually enough not to zoom from the default full wide.
