3 Highlanders in dress uniforms at the 2003 Willamete Mission St. Park Re-enactment.
These 3 men represent the various stages of a dress uniform for the 79th N.Y.S.M., Co. C. From left to right they are wearing: Kilt and New York Shell Jacket, Dress Jacket and Kilt and Dress Jacket and Kilt. The Private and the First Sgt. (left and right respectivly) are armed with Clay-Bec, basket hilted broad swords. The middle Sgt. is armed with a Scottish Dirk. The Private on the left is also armed with a Dirk. All three are wearing Glengaries, State New York belts and the two NCO's are wearing thier sashes underneath thier belts. The kilts are the Cameron of Erract tartan.
This is a tin-type photo using acid and various other chemicals to produce the image. The cheeks of all 3 are rouged pinkish as is typical with these type of pictures. The subjects are not looking at the camera which is also normal for the period. Also intresting to note that everything is reversed in this photo, ie everything is on the reverse side from the side it actually was on in real life. If you can read the SNY initialls on the belt buckles you will seee they are reveresed.
Left to right:
