79th New York State Millitia (Civil War Reenacting)

Photos and information concerning the 79th New York State Militia, Company C., a part of the Cameron Highlanders of the Northwest. The 79th NY Company C. is a civil war reenacting group based in the Pacific Northwest, headquartered in Oregon City Oregon.

The 79th New York was the only Highland Regiment in the American Army, originally an ethnically Scottish New York Militia Regiment raised in 1859. The 79th served with brave distinction throughout the Civil War.

Hi, My name is Robert Rodgers. I am interested in putting together a 79th Uniform and your site is quite informative. I have a question for you. I am planning on making a sporran soon and wanted to know if you could steer me in the right direction. How are the tassels attached and how are they made? Is there a pattern for the whole thing?

Awesome! Didn't know there were 79thers up in Oregon. I'm heading up to SOU to attend college from the Sacramento Valley where I'm part of the 79th New York Co. C I dunno if you are too far away or not, but I would love to head to an even with you guys while I am in Oregon. :)

you have a wonderful site it was very helpful in the research on my great great great grandfather isaac ingals stevens thankyou for honoring his memory i have plans as a living historion of the civil war period of doing an impersionation of him i think he would have liked that. thanks again. james cardwell great great great grandson of mr stevens.

Awesome website! You give good information and show great detail on the uniforms. It helps to know little about the 79th. I'm also in a 79th New York Cameron Highlanders Company A regiment in Bakersfield, California, so this came of great help to me.

It looks great. My g-g-g-uncle was named Garrett o. Vanderbeck and served in the 79th during the civil war.
