A Royal Liver Building Liverpool egyik legjellegzetesebb épülete. A modern felhőkarcolók ezen előfutárát W Aubrey Thomas tervezte és 1911-ben nyitották meg - 90 méter magas és 13 emeletes. Az épületen levő órák átmérője 7.6 méter – nagyobbak, mint a londoni Big Ben órái. Mindegyik óratorony tetején Liverpool szimbólumának, a Liver madárnak egy-egy rézből készült szobra található. A legenda úgy tartja: ha a madarak elszállnak, Liverpool megszűnik létezni.

The Royal Liver Building is one of the city of Liverpool's most recognisable landmarks. Designed by W Aubrey Thomas, it opened in 1911 and is a forerunner of the modern skyscraper. It stands at 90 metres (295 feet) and has 13 floors. The clock-faces are 7.6 metres in diameter - larger than those of "Big Ben" in London! On top of each clock tower sits a copper statue of a Liver bird - the symbol of Liverpool. It is said that if the birds ever fly away, the city will cease to exist.
