I went to Mevagissey today, feeling a little uncomfortable having a camera round my neck. Would it be considered ghoulish to take photographs of a town in the aftermath of the recent floods?
Talking to two shop owners it seems that they are only too happy to see people visiting the town, camera or no camera!
The Bon Appétit Cafe has been hosed down, scrubbed with bleach and repainted - all since 17th November. Their stock room was under 4' of water at one stage and EVERYTHING in it had to be thrown away, even canned goods! Food counters and tables and chairs had to be replaced though the Environmental Health Authorities did allow them to keep the china and cutlery as it could be sterilised.
I can only wish these people well, they have worked like trojans to get their livelihood back on track. That said it's going to take a lot of carrot cake sales to recoup their losses!
