I came across this Darning Mushroom today whilst looking for cottons in my workbasket.
It belonged to my maternal Grandmother. She lived in a time when garments were handmade, stitched, repaired and repaired again.
I can just about remember her showing me how to darn a sock when I was very small...so I know how it should be done but achieving it is still beyond me!!
I wonder how many repairs have been done with this mushroom, judging by the wear on it, quite a few.

You've made a fine image of it Ann, and a good story to accompany it. A trigger for great childhood memories!

I have one too, it brought back memories.
I can just about darn a sock, we used to do our own school socks.
The kids don't know they're born today. lol

Neat focusing. I have an old one of these at home, probably
belonged to my granny too, but it's missing it's 'stalk'.
