Purchased this Heuer on eBay at a decent price, but no mounting plate. Shipping off to Heuer Switzerland for a 'tune-up" and "cosmetic make-over'. The dial https://pbase.com/image/155340417 appears in very good shape, the hands https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/155340419 a bit faded and showing their age. Service photos to follow...

Auto Rallye Overview

The simplest of the dash-mounted Heuers, the Auto Rallye 60 minute stopwatch was introduced in the early 1950s. Early models were listed as “Auto Rallyes” in catalogs and other literature, but had only the “Heuer” logo on the dial. Early versions matched the Autavias of the period, with a very simple dial, a screw-on bezel and a single button (pusher) to the left of the crown. Early Auto Rallyes used the Valjoux 62 movement. Later Auto Rallyes (from 1958)matched the Monte Carlos of the period, in terms of the styles of cases and dials, with the use of an A. Schild 1565 movement. The final versions of the metal-cased Auto-Rallye used a thicker case and a Valjoux 7710 movement, with the Auto Rallyes spending their final years in plastic cases.

Pity the poor Auto Rallye!! With no 12-hour capability, no time of day indication and no split-second capability, it is often derided as being "just a stopwatch". As such, the Auto Rallye ranks sixth in value among the dash-mounted Heuers, often struggling to fetch half the price of a comparable Monte Carlo. One footnote, however, is that the early Auto Rallyes may be the rarest and among the most valuable of the dash-mounted Heuers. These early ones are also difficult to find and identify, in that they do not bear the "Auto Rallye" name on their dials. Bottom line - if you can live without the 12-hour disc, the Auto Rallye is the real bargain among the dash-mounted Heuers.
