Never having worked on a 69’ T Sporto I never knew they ran the system on engine oil. In fact I don’t think I have ever worked on a Sportomatic. (they were kind of considered as a wife’s car or someone who didn’t know how to drive a stick shift.) I am very curious on haw they got the Torq converter to work with motor oil. In my apprentice days I worked for VW and they had an Automatic stick that was essentially the same but used ATF. All I remember is that they were very complicated and a lot of trouble, so I guess I’m lucky to never have dealt with a Sportomatic!

So what did they do on the Monte Carlo car to stop the oils from mixing? Did they machine the pump housing for a seal? Or did they not use the “T” pump?

Does anybody have an idea on how many GT’s used External Lubrication system? I don’t recall seeing too many on the race cars, was it just for the rally cars?

Armando- I’ll try to find your pump in the next few days to confirm what you have.

The differend is the seal. The sporto-pump works with engine oel. If you use it for gearoel for the transmission cooling, you must have the sportopump for MFI engines because the gearoel mixed with engineoel.

For the T-modell, porsche make the pump cheaper. It doesn`t matter if the pump leaking in the camshafthousing to mixed the oels because for engine and converter luckup is the same oeland one system.

Hi Wilfrid, thank you for the added information, all my books are packed in boxes and not accessible in my garage. Having these part numbers and details online at the Porsche website makes it an easy and convenient reference. It will not be difficult to confirm exactly what parts the Monte Carlo used for the 901 oil pump.

Hi Armando, I think faces (rotor housing) are differents if you use a cam for MFI or carb, but 100% sure !

When I see the Porsche PET for 911 year 1969 - 1971, page 55,http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/en/E_911_73_KATALOG.pdf

we can read :
2 references for an oil pump converter :
905 107 006 04 for 911 T => carb
905 107 008 00 for 911 E => MFI

and 2 references for rotor housing :
905 107 101 03 for 911 T
905 107 102 01 fr 911 E

The intermediaire flange (#25, ref 901 107 011 00) for 911 E is a space for the MFI pulley.

It is possible that this 2 oil pumps (T or E) could be fitted if you use the correct cams ?

May be the factory used :
906 E cams or 911 S 1969 MFI cams and 911 E oil pump
906 carb cams or 911 S carb cams and 911 T oil pump.

If Bernie can give you informations about the correct combinaisons and how does the oil pmup is connected to engine, cams ... it should be great.

Hi Armando, I have a problem in the identification of the oil pump for the gearbox lubrification kit.

The pump you have is a sportomatic oil pump that came from a MFI engine :

On the other side, when i see the 914 GT Monte Carlo gearbox oil pump, it is not the same model. May be it is the 911 T version with carbs ???

I suppose the difference comes from the cames used (MFI or not ?) I have the opportunity to buy a sportomatic oil pump for a carb engine, but not sure it will fit ?
