VDO 10K Tachometer - 914-6 GT

Specifications: The Porsche p/n for the 10k VDO Tachometer used on the 1970 Porsche 914-6 GT is 911.641.304.00. Also, the gauge used on the 914-6 GT did NOT have a "Redline Marker" as did some of the other 10k VDO gauges. Starting 1970, Porsche changed the mounting method of the gauge using a rubber compression ring that slips over the instrument can.

The original VDO 10K gauges has 30000 IMP (impressions) stamped on the back. If you have a 10K tach that you believe was converted, look at the back of the can, it it says 21000 or 24000 IMP, then those were 7K and 8K converted tachometers, not the real-deal. Many services can reface a 10K tach with the correct part number, but not the 30000 IMP stamped at the back of the can.

KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE BOSCH CDI BOXES; Please be aware that when trying to convert the standard 914-6 tachometer to the 10k version, you will need to know if you'll be using "breaker-points" or a "photo-eye sensor" since the internal electronic board has to be compatible with your type of ignition system. Also be aware that some BOSCH CDI boxes, particularly the one ending with the .004 have shown to be more problematic, the more common BOSCH CDI boxes end with a .001 part number and are the ones that seem to work --- Another solution or alternative to the BOSCH CDI Box... If you want your ignition to look correct but work better, then contact "Perma-Tune" and have them replace the BOSCH CDI box internals with their Perma-Tune electronics. This way, you have new and fresh electronics, you know exactly what you have, if it breaks you can have it fix easily, etc.

You can contact Perman-Tune here http://www.permatune.com or you can call them at (631) 909-1011, ask to speak to Lonnie (Approximate cost to convert your BOSCH CDI internals to the Perma-Tune is $450 each). New address: Plasmatronics, 3 Grace Court, Center Moriches, New York 11934.
