This early example of a fibreglass spire was erected in 1961 on St Pauls Church Smethwick West Midlands to replce th original spire on the Victorian church.
This was shot inside with the camera sat on the floor.
I was very interested to see this because I lived only a couple of miles from the church in Smethwick and remembered the spire being erected by a crane. Unfortunately the church caught fire a few years later and the fire brigade made considerable efforts to save the spire, but if I remember correctly the rest of the church was gutted. I have always wondered what happened to the spire. Thanks for the memories.
