Kingston Springs Hotel

Kingston Springs, TN

Kingston Springs Hotel Complex, Kingston Springs, Cheatham County

The Kingston Springs Hotel is one of only a few remaining hotel and resort era complexes encompassing health spas established in Middle TN during the early 1890s until 1917. Primarily attracting Tennesseans and prominent Nashvillians, visitors came to access the mineral springs as the main attraction via the railroad, while also boasting a dance hall and bowling alley. Two framed guest cottages built around 1900 provided comfortable accommodations and are located on the property near the hotel. The present Victorian styled hotel constructed in the early 1890s was built by Matt F. Allen from designs by Nashville architect Baxter J. Hodge. This collection of buildings has deteriorated for years as the owners have neglected to maintain and preserve the historic site.

I just visited there today. What can be done?

In addition to the old hotel, there are also at least two guest cottages (in worse shape) & what may have been a caretaker's house built later - (also abandoned) as an aside - the owner's husband cuts & bales round bales of hay & leaves them in the fields to rot

I’d love to know some Kingston Springs history. Love knowing facts about my hometown.

Why was the elementary school left with all the supplies in it.

The Dorris family owns it. In the 19th and 20th century it was owned by the Beard family. They owned the only store and hotel in the area. After their passing they left it to their daughter. She was a teacher at Kingston Springs elementary school for years and served as principal. She is a great lady and encouraged civic pride and self esteem. I grew up on a street next to her family home on the corner of Kingston road and Moore circle. I attended many gatherings at her house and have happy memories of those times... And bad ones. I watched a friend of mine in elementary school have her leg broken in miss dorris's front yard by nothing. I went to the old abandoned school on the hill next to her property that is now owned by Bob Crouch who is a cousin of mine. Its no surprise that i am related to everyone in that town. The crouch, Edwards, Beard, Bakers and Moore's are the last remaining families from the area. If i can help in any way please contact me via email. I love this old town and have more information than anyone else around here. Be advised that the town commission and leaders of the community are, shall we say, "corrupt". Be careful who you talk to and who you meet with. Oh, btw... There is an old cemetery close to the property that is rather interesting. Take care.

This is a wonderful image... love the flowers in the foreground. It's too bad it hasn't been kept up but it's all too common a story these days. Looks like it was a beatiful spot in it's day!

If those walls could talk... it's a shame that it is being left to decay.

I imagine that this was a grand old hotel during its day. Phil's right about the TLC ~ hopefully someone will restore this building! :)

It looks like a great old building. Your composition is great, and the details are good too. Well done.

Looks haunted to me. It is a cool place. Needs some restoration. I'd stay there as long as the ghosts left.

Very nice composition. The flowers in the foreground balance the building well.

Very well composed image with such a strong contrast between the old Hotel and the Spring Flowers.

It looks like it was a nice place at one time. It's unfortunate the owners have not kept it in good condition.
