Bodnath Stupa, scene of these festivities, is stunning. The biggest stupa in Nepal, its huge white dome, multi-coloured prayer flags and omniscient, huge and ever-watchful Buddha Eye have become synonymous with Tibetan Buddhism outside its homeland.
