Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Established in 1908, Gifford Pinchot National Forest is one of America's oldest national forests. It is located in southwest Washington State and comprises 1.3 million acres, including Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument Originally named the Columbia National Forest, in 1949 it was renamed for Gifford Pinchot, an active conservationist and visionary environmentalist who became the first Chief of the Forest Service.
