Remuh cementery

view map

Jewish cemetery Remuh is situated in the Kazimierz district and is surrounded with streets Szeroka, Miodowa, Jakuba and Ciemna. It is possible to enter it only from inner yard in front of the Remuh synagogue. The name of synagogue and cemetery derives from the first letters of title, name and family name of Rabbi Mojzesz Isserles. There is a Hebrew inscription above entrance: "Old cemetery, place of last rest of gaons, established by kahal in 5311". It is worth to know that in very close neighborhood, in the place of square at Szeroka Street, there was the first and the oldest Jewish cemetery in Krakow. It is considered to be one of the most interesting and the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Europe.
