TECHNICAL DATA

The pictures shown in these galleries were taken with a number of different cameras. The main one's were Canon but different models, while some of the older photographs were taken on Rolleiflex, Mamiya Sport and Contax.

Whilst I am still using the Mamiya Sport I am also using a Canon EOS5 plus a Canon Digital D60.

Gallery One- France: I am exceedingly fond of Paris, hence most of the photographs in this Gallery are of this city, the exceptions being "The Chair" which was taken in a chateau in Normandy, because I liked the play of sunlight through open window shutters and the shopping arcade in la Rochelle, where I was intrigued by the continuing arches repeating one another.

Gallery Two - Borneo: These photographs were taken in 1958 or 1959 and I have included them to give some idea of how logging operations were carried out in Borneo in those days. There was no "slash and burn" policy as is generally used today in the logging areas of the world and as I recall, we were lucky if we could obtain approval to fell more than one or at most two logs per acre. This was to give time for regeneration of the forest. These photographs were taken with a Rolleiflex.

Gallery Three - Far East: I have included in this site just three photographs each from Hong Kong, Sarawak, and Penang. Unfortunately when I returned from living in the Far East I had all my Black & White negatives stolen, so all the photographs in this Gallery & Gallery Two are scans taken from album snapshots.

The photographs of Hong Kong were taken during a trip to the New Territories and the two boys in the pictures are probably now grandfathers!

The photographs in Sibu were taken after a visit to the town by HRH Prince Philip when he visited the Borneo Territories.

The final three photographs were taken in Penang, or rather Georgetown, to give the town it's correct name. Thay are just a memento of a happy night organised by the Penang & North Malaya Motor Club. If anyone out there remembers this, do drop a line. Again all these photographs were taken with a Rolleiflex.

Gallery Four - Venice: A few of the photos taken on a trip to Venice in the eighties. All photographs were taken with a Canon A-1.

Gallery Five - Bits and Bobs: These photographs are included for various reasons. For example in picture number 8, I love the man lurking behind the lobster-pots and in picture 3, I snapped the girl on the bus in Amsterdam as I liked the way she "fitted" into the advertising on the side of the bus. Comments on the others? The photographs were taken with different cameras - all Canon.

Gallery Six - Water: I seem to be attracted to water when out taking photographs and these are an assortment taken over the years.

Gallery Seven - Africa: These comprise a selection from photographs taken when I went on a safari to Kenya and Tanzania. Everyone thought me mad for photographing the animals and the area in black & white but I feel the medium better describes the feeling of both the area and the animals.

Other galleries will be added in due course.
