On D-Day on 7th June 1944, this tank was driven into a 3 metre deep shell hole filled with water (the driver did not know there was a hole there - he only saw the water)where it sank. Four of the six crew were killed by German machine gun fire whilst escaping. Two crew survived. The tank was raised 32 years later in 1976, restored and put on display 100 metres north of where it was buried for 32 years. The two surviving crew members were at the ceremony.
