4NI-0270.jpg

The main activity for the evening (this also occurs first thing in the morning)
is the milking of the adult sheep following their return from pasture. During the
day when the adult goats, sheep and cattle head out for the day to feast on the
nutritious salty land, the baby animals remain with the women and children. Just
prior to sunset and the return of the herds, the baby sheep are tied up and impatiently
wait for their mothers to return. And so the daily (twice) ritual begins. As soon
as the adult sheep enter the encampment one of the nomadic females along with two
young boys, run out to catch a female sheep, in order to milk them. They do this
with about 4 sheep. The sound of the baby sheep (tied up) crying out for their mommy's is pretty profuse. However in no time they are untied and the babies with tails
wagging, excitedly run out in search of their respective parent. This is quite cute
to witness, as the exhilaration of the baby sheep is prominent on their faces. As
soon as they recognize their moomy's they hurriedly grab onto a teat and the sucking
begins.
