It was the death of this young man, Phillip Quentin Upton,
while sailing on the Chesepeke Bay during college in 1939 that
started the idea of a sailing school for children.
That thought has blossomed into a 50+ year tradition
of teaching sailing and water safety instruction in
Saint Joseph, Michigan.
