The first race of the season, while not a true test of upwind sailing,
proved to be an adventuress start to our 2006 season.
A fresh offshore breeze was just what the heaver boats like as a
fleet of 10 boats sailed up and down the shoreline in a close reach/broad reach,
4 mile race off the piers of Saint Joseph, Michigan.
Pied Piper and The Jabberwock battled for line honors
but perennial J&M champion Indentured showed off their new sails
and finished first on corrected time. Jabberwock tried hard but
could not catch Pied Piper as our immediate Past Commodore, Ron Rueckwald,
took the cannon completing the course in just 25 minutes and 4 seconds.
Wellenreiter, skippered by Ron Schults, outdistanced Jon Veersma’s
Zot by 4:15 to take first place in Section I.
