The end of Yugoslavia

Trg Jelacica, Zagreb

Not totally the end...but the end as far as Croatia was concerned. This was on the Trg Republika, also known as Jelacic Platz and in my student days as Pendrik Platz. It was the night of January 15, 1992, and Croatia had just declared independence from Yugoslavia. Contrary to what the communists and Chetnik apologists at the UN say, the war was not started by this act...it had been in full cry for six months. Is the guy in the Yankees hat really a Yankees fan? Or is it some sort of CIA cover? In the Balkans, a banana is never just a banana.

Great picture. That disgusting flag and the tyranny it represented are finally dead.
