Race at the front

Always great advice for young riders: race at the front. Wayne Stetina, Mark Pringle, and Dale Stetina force the pace over the hill in the road race at the 1977 Nationals in Seattle. Wayne won the title in '76, '77, and again in '85. Dale Stetina won in '78 and again in '80. Giro helmets are still six years away, as are step-in pedals. Aero brake levers are available in Shimano's Dura Ace AX group, but I don't see any in the photos. Toe clip straps were once a big part of my life. I used them for all sorts of things. I kept a box of spares around so I'd always have some close at hand. And now....only a memory! These are the days when bike messengers rode Schwinn Cycle Truck bikes, which weighed a ton. Only guys like me were seen around town on a fixed gear bike.
