Irina Popova of Uelen's famous carving studio works on a walrus tusk at Kotzebue's carving studio. A group of Russian carvers visited Kotz and showed their skill to local artists. The work of the Uelen artists is known throughout Russia and commands high prices in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
