Loading food for Bosnia

Split, Croatia

The Hercs were loaded with food and other aid for Bosnia at Split airport in Croatia. It was a massive airlift, all because the UN wouldn't tell the Serbs to open the roads. One Herc was shot down during the airlift, apparently by a Croat playing with a Stinger missile. There were no accidents. Planes also were loaded with pallets of food, mostly MREs, which were parachuted into isolated towns which were out of food. When you drove into a remote town you could tell right away if they were getting airdrops: teenage girls were wearing earrings made from the tiny Tabasco sauce bottles which come in the MRE packages.
