Col. Alistair Duncan, left, and General Briquemont of Belgian. The Belgian UN commander was typical of the UN commanders who served six months and then were rotated out. When they first showed up they'd make a speech reflecting the official UN line: nobody's more guilty here, we've got to be evenhanded, there's enough blame to go around. At the end of the six months they'd be having a beer with the troops and say, off the record of course, "The first step here is to bomb the livin shit out of the Serbs!" Eventually NATO took over for the UN and a little force was applied. Not enough, but it will be next time.
