HVO command, Brdo, near Vitez

Brdo

This was the Croat HVO command post at Brdo, a small village on the mountain above Vitez. Jugoslavija before the war had a real "peoples army," and everybody had to do their time. There was also a significant awareness of military issues that was part of the local culture, as there is pretty much a war for each generation. The result was that when the civil war started, there were capable people who knew what to do everyplace.

Obviously they had no bloody clue what they were doing or else they wouldn't grant you an access to forward command post. Thanks for the images though. I've ran into a link browsing one of the bosnian forums. As a direct participant of events shown through your photographs, I can say two things; 1. I do like your pictures. They bring me back to those days 2.You really should have taken at least a bit of effort to at least pretend you are not so biased- i can understand it when turks call all Croats "ustasa" but I won't accept a snot nose reporter who spent a few months here labelling all Croats as "Croat extremists". Shameful. On the other hand, I have nothing but utter respect for the British military and their conduct here during the war. Obviously, you are not made of that material. Best regards from central Bosnia.
