The Spider and The Sun

In the beginning there were only two: Tawa, the Sun God, and Spider Woman, the Earth Goddess.
All the mysteries and power in the Above belonged to Tawa,
while Spider Woman controlled the magic of the Below.
In the Underworld, abode of the Gods, they dwelt and they were All.
There was neither man nor woman, bird nor beast,
no living thing until these Two willed it to be.

Tawa, the sun and spirit Spider Woman was the creator and intercessor between the deity and the people.
In some versions of the Hopi creation myth, it is she who creates all life.
Hopi mythology is not always told consistently and each Hopi mesa,
or even each village, may have its own version of this particular story.
One version Spider Woman gathers clay from Tawa and creates the people
and animals and together they will life into them!
All this is not my story to tell but it’s still interesting.
