I have a neighbor who is a packrat extraordinaire.
He has a lot just east of us that has lumber and other
detritus from many places and projects.
The lot was full when we got here almost two decades ago and I have
never seen him over there because he has started to fill other spaces
The Himalayan blackberries have started to take over so
it’s slowly turning into an impenetrable jungle.
It is nice in a strange way because it’s quiet, a wildlife refuge,
and a personal blackberry patch for us along the fence.
Sadly it has imprisoned several VW beatles and a VW van,
all of them look like they are of the coveted 60’s vintage!
Don’t ask! A few have tried to negotiate their freedom
with hefty ransoms and have failed at risk of facing harm.
So goes the drama over there!
We’ll just enjoy the blackberries, the birds, the bees,
as the packrat’s horde quietly returns to nature!
