Owl Creek

20 something years ago we moved into a house
that had a small creek running through the back yard.
No one seemed to know the creeks name or if it had a name.
I loved it because it seemed to attract a variety of birds
and other wildlife including small fish and crawdads
The grandkids loved catching the crawdads who got a free
meal out of it and seemed to know it was catch and release.
Until the day I stepped out on the back porch and saw a great blue heron
on very measured wing beats lifting it self almost straight up to get over the trees.
Never saw the heron or the crawdads again! The grandkids where disappointed.

Walking along a section the Olympic Discovery Trail just north of where we lived
I discovered that the creek has a name and also good memories.
