Our little town like many across America observed 9 11.
Firefighters displayed a big flag.
The VFW provided the honor guard.
The people came to watch and wait....
A motorcade of motorcycles, fire trucks, and police cars
came down the street, motors rumbling, lights flashing.
The crowd was silent as the trailer came to a stop.
The straps and cover were removed.
More than a few eyes teared up as a very thick slab
of steel plate with a flag draped over it was reveled.
The flag was carefully folded in a triangle.
The large flag that had been hanging slack all morning lifted
over the scene on a gentle breeze as if it was whispering a blessing.
A few words were said by some politicians
as the crowd said a little prayer in remembrance
and for short speeches.
After the words some lingered to touch it and be touched by it.
The crowed slowly dispersed into the beautiful sunny September day.
Not a cloud in the clear blue sky......
