20050703 / Monsters

These are Raw conversions with a little Neat Image applied. Photoshop, for once,
is used for resizing only. I figured I might as well actually use the space on
the 1 gig Compact Flash Card for something other than storage, right?

Nikon D70 ,Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D ED AF
1/1000s f/16.0 at 70.0mm iso1600 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Excellent crops Chris!

I agree with the last commentator. The crop removes the sense of scale but not size, if that makes sense. The robust, brutal quality is shoved in our faces. The toning makes perfect sense, here.

you know what?
i like the second one better.
the crop makes for a more interesting image as i don't know
what i am looking at.
nicely done

I use a high ISO often, too -- and for what it's worth, I find the noise to be not as great as I had expected...no noise here - just a very very good image that projects the enormity of the vehicle (s?).
Johan Toll06-Jul-2005 06:48
I like the perspective! The B&W tones are very nice too.

Great perspective and fantastic treatment on this images...really like what you've done. For the past couple of months I've been shooting only RAW, as I find it allows me more leeway during post process. Not to mention, fixing wb or exp mistakes I might have made otherwise :)

Cool! These demand a song about the industrial age.

Looks like something from WW2, delicate conversion, works really well.

Boy toys :-0 Awesome tonal treatment.Menacing road warriors!
Guest 04-Jul-2005 10:18
great treament.
i would imagine that these would look even more menacing with a close up with wide angle shots??! :?
Guest 04-Jul-2005 10:09
beautiful image.

Nice capture and framing. Perfect in b&w.
Susanne04-Jul-2005 07:22
I really enjoy the second picture. I think it shows the monster the way I would assume one would look. Large and threatening. Great shot, Chris.

I am glad you got out of the way before they ran you over!

I always shoot RAW, carry two 1 Gig cards and an extra 512 just in case.
Great job on these shots. Looks to be some toning here though like jude said.

Hmmm.. you have me contemplating the raw setting now.. grin, only have a half gigger on my card tho, it's the storage space on the computer I need to start watching! btw, I like the angle/neverending line you shot this at.
Guest 04-Jul-2005 04:03
Turned out nice. I always shoot RAW. Gives a better post image and a little more leway in which way I want the exposure to go after the shot.
Guest 04-Jul-2005 02:37
They do look like monsters!
Chris04-Jul-2005 01:58
red,

Shadow contrast is bumped in the Raw conversion and then saturation was dropped.
jude04-Jul-2005 01:56
is this s slight sepia or a very low color saturation? at any rate.. amazing what works go into these "monsters:..
nomadicdragon04-Jul-2005 01:12
wow. Well done. They really do look like monsters. Great perspective and color treatment.
