20050501 / Sunset Surf Sunday

Asilomar State Beach, CA

Day's end at the edge of the world. Nothing worse than spending a beautiful
Sunday stuck in an office, but that was my day. My evening, however, was
spent here. Head high and consistent, I surfed until the sun started to drop
and let the lens lick up the last rays as these opportunistic groms left it
all in the water.

Beautiful,Chris...just beautiful.

Wonderful Chris! I wish I could have the sounds of the waves crashing to go with the images:)

Like the range of colours in the top wave, nice capture.

Evans & Pooch, A Shredder is someone who surfs exceptionally well. Someone who shreds or 'rips' has the ability to make quick turns into the face of the wave-like the guy in the top photo.
Guest 02-May-2005 13:31
whoa...
ithe first one did not look like a wave at all.
looked like a person on a small island.

love how the surfers are silouettes

Both photos are excelent but the bottom one gets my vote.. It's so well done, Chris.. from the composition to the perfect moment caught..

superb - both images are just infused with your enthusiasm for the sport and the love of the sea.
thanks for explaining "grom".... but what's a "shredder"? ;)

I see the similarity in our PaD shots toady Chris. Possibly it's that the Pacific Ocean looks the same on both sides of it...thanks for visiting.

Very nice captures here, Chris! Well done!
JazzyJess02-May-2005 06:36
wow, very nice picture of your "grom". You did a great job. I did not study much either.

Groms are the younger surfers, Jeremy. Not to be confused with 'kooks' which are clueless beginners, groms are often shredders out on the water. A lot nicer than what they call the over 30 surfer set, FOGs. I'll let you figure that one out on your own.

What's a grom?
These are twilight gems!
Susanne02-May-2005 06:11
I really like the picture where the surfer is shown as a silhouette. Very fine picture. The tones in your images are very warm and I bet it is hard to be in an office on a sunday afternoon, even more so if the weather is nice.

Awesome.
Guest 02-May-2005 05:37
