20050104 / Three Times Four

Auburn Hills, MI

For years, the road to The Palace was Two Championship Drive.
It was named for the Detroit Pistons back-to-back NBA Championships
in 1989 and 1990. After winning the 2004 Crown, the road to
The Palace didn't become Three Championship Drive, it became
Four Championship Drive. Answer the multiple choice(if you are
so inclined)with the reason you think this happened:

1) The Detroit Pistons are a goal-oriented, forward-thinking organization.
2) The Detroit Pistons are some arrogant, counting their chickens before
they hatch, bunch of bastards.
3) Those damned street signs cost a lot of money, not to mention the
paperwork you have to file with the city.
4) None of the above. (Provide your own answer in a 2000 word or less essay)

It is Four Championship Drive because in addition to the three Pistons men's NBA titles, the Detroit Shock have won one (so far!) Women's NBA crown.

So, no, this is not an example of taking credit for something that was not earned. Detroit's basketball teams that play at the Palace have in fact earned a combined four championships as of now.

4) But it's a wild stab in the dark (did that come in under 2000?).

I am inclined to say that the answer is 2. The reason why I think that is, because Michigan people, at least the two I have met face to face, seem to be a tad arrogant and assume to win before they actually take the win. Though, 2 it is!!
