These photographs were taken during my parent's 40th Anniversary trip to San Francisco, CA. You know them as Papa Jim and Estralita. Click here
to see Papa Jim's photographic journal of the trip. The first day, we hit the road, making our way south on Highway 1 from Half Moon Bay all the way
to Monterey where we had supper on Cannery Row with a great view of the Monterey Bay. The next day we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and saw the
famous landmark half-enshrouded in thick fog before continuing into Sausalito for a bit of shopping. On the way back, we took a stroll through
Chinatown. On their third and fourth day, they toured the city by trolley car, explored Fisherman's Wharf and hiked around in Muir Woods north of
the City. On the fifth day, we took a ferry to Alcatraz Island, enjoyed Pier 39 and took in a Giants game later that evening. Day six had us North
of the city again into the Marin Headlands and beyond before doubling back into the city to see just a bit more of the wharf. On day seven, a particularly
clear day, we went to Fort Point to view the Golden Gate from below on the City side, then visited a mission in the Castro district. Afterward, we strolled
for an hour along Haight Street before heading into North Beach for an excellent supper at 'The Stinking Rose'. On the last day, we headed over to the east side
of the bay to drive through Oakland and Berkeley before a quick trip down the 101 through the Silicon Valley - then returned to my hometown, San Mateo. Before
they left, we had a great dinner at a sports bar in San Mateo where my mother got to watch Tony Stewart, her favorite driver, win the Pepsi 400 for the second
year in a row. The next day, having put them on the red-eye back to Detroit safe and sound, I slept 'til one o'clock in the afternoon.
