I visited 3 historical towns near Shanghai during this trip: Xitang, Nanxun, and Zhouzhuang. All were established during the Ming dynasty, more than 700 years ago. Those towns are noted for their profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses, the elegant watery views, and the strong local colored traditions and customs. Zhouzhuang has been called the "Venice of the East".
