Sir Robert McAlpine "Concrete Bob" was Alistair's Great Grandfather and founded a very successful construction firm which is still a family business today. It is currently headed by Alistair's brother William. William is keen on railways and has a full size "train set" in his garden in Oxfordshire!
Alistair sits in the House of Lords, but yes, has been involved in tourism in Oz.
