9th March

Mansefield Place.
They started the demolition work on this fine looking HUGE building on monday,
when i was there today all you could hear was them banging and bashing inside.
They're only allowed to start knocking down the back of it
because there is 3 families still living round the front part of it
as theres no suitable housing for them to move into just yet.

Thank you zak for this photograph. This place has many memories for me ,the most vivid being one of my earliest recollections from my childhood. My grandfather and I had been visiting relatives in Mansield Place ,when we left late that night he lifted me up on his shoulders in the middle of High St tosee the glow of the fires ,reflected on the clouds as Greenock and Port Glasgow were being bombed The date of that raid was the 13/14of March 1941 thanks to you when I tell the tale to my grandchildren I can show them the spot thank you again Billy Morrison

Beautiful old building, what a shame!

They do the same thing here all the time, knock down beautiful historic buildings, that may need some work, to build modern ones that look the same as all the rest. The only saving grace is that they will be remembered through photos. :-)

Zak, going to run for the council? It's those spineless shits at the council planning that let these application through rather than having the balls to say no and demand a more appropriate solution

Ah, the demise of the corner shop

That's so sad to see....Zak, go chain yourself to that fence & protest the crime in play.

I thought you were going to say this was your new flat...

No doubt some monstrosity is planned for the space...

What on earth is wrong with this that they have to knock it down? I have so many memories of that shop from when I was at the primary school that used to be across the road from it. They are tearing the heart out of my old town. It is so, so sad.
